EGADS DND SESSION!! uhm session 6. (i think its session 6 I’m not entirely sure lmao) Fun fact we have two new party members/characters which are Leopol, a cyclops bard who specialises in opera singing, and Bruce, an elf bard who specialises in contemporary piano andhskjs RANT BEGINS!!

Basically we decided that Bruce was a member of the party from the start of the story but just was visiting family and Leopol hid in the van since she’s forgotten her memories and heard the band! Session 6 was basically the rest of the party asking her what she was doing in the van and making a deal that if she can sing/play an instrument she can stay with the band!

Then she tried to kill Gerard (the horse that sings emo music and pulls the caravan/carriage) since she thought he was useless but then he kicked her into a fence infront of Strahd’s castle. And then she got tied up and interrogated by mainly Sasha (pop musician lmao) who slapped her in the face and yelled at her (let it be known that the friend who plays sasha has done acting for like his entire childhood so he put on a show/gen) (also when that happened, Eddie turned to Polly and was like ‘listen I’m not saying I’d like to be in that position however-‘ and Polly stood there in shock and horror) and then the two fought- the girls are fightinggg- while Strahd himself stood there like ‘huh ok sure’ and the session ended with us being in Strahd’s castle and him explaining the party we’re supposed to play at! Also polly fucked up giving a handshake to Strahd since Strahd wiped his hand after it and Polly copied him and then got death stared ajdhsj

She was a Catwoman copy cat (haha sorry i couldn't help it) who grew up with her abusive uncle (Mario Falcone - he literally tries to kill her in the arc she's in, she calls him uncle - but others claim she's his little sister and she claims she's Carmine's daughter) and lived on the streets for a while. She looked up to Catwoman and imitated her, but Selina steals some of her maps (i think like blueprints for heists or smth idk) so she breaks in to Selina's house to steal them back.

At this point she was working for Penguin (she bombed a place it was a whole thing) - her map making skills are vital for taking down/locating Black Mask so she's vital (she's doing this for the bounty). And she and Selina get on and Selina gives her a costume and she becomes Catgirl.

Anyways from here on, she runs ahead on the case they're working on (i skimmed didn't actually read it) leaving him clues and such it's like the typical young vigilante storyline of being over confident. She gets in over her head, Dick catches up and bails her out - she runs (because this one actually has self preservation instincts unlike the 934758 other batfam characters). Dick gets shot in the head (again - but don't worry the cowl redistributed its impact *sigh* this man has so much head trauma, but comic book logic) by Harvey Dent's wife Gilda no less and wakes up later and finds this letter.

The arc itself is pretty dry and follows a pattern we've already seen from DC comics. Also she's like "I'll be back" and DC just went sike. So. Yeah. Reboot messed her stuff up. It's annoying to me that they made Lian Selina's new protégé or whatever when they already had this storyline right here, and to have Jade drop her off like that is ooc, especially because Roy was right there as well. And while Kitrina might not be for everyone personality wise, I personally would love to see her kick rich kids asses at boarding school. Or just have her train under Selina - because at the least she already grew up watching Selina and trying to emulate her, both in personality and in the skills she taught herself - so the connection for this character is already there - whereas "Shoes" just came out of nowhere.

Another thing I find kind of funny is the popularity of "Stray" fics, because she hits some of the same beats I've heard about (i haven't read any though this is second hand knowledge). To my understanding, when someone (Tim or Jason) is stray, they grow up on the streets trying to escape familial abuse (which she does) and eventually is taken in by Catwoman (which she is) and becomes her protégé (again which canonically happened to this character). Though she doesn't interact with her respective Robin (Damian at the time) too much which i think is also usually a part of said fics.

I have no idea if this is a coincidence or not - this character has very few appearances, which date back to the Dick!Bats era - so i assume most of this fandom doesn't actually know who she is, but it's possible one of the first "Stray" fics used her as inspiration.

Titans 1x01

Okay, like, what did I just watch?!  I have so many questions and I know its a pilot so they try to smush copious amount of information into a small amount of time for a viewer to become interested.

I am interested.

First off, how dare they start this show with me having to witness the tragic deaths of my bb Dick Grayson’s parents.  how could they?!  (But I liked it tho...)

(Also, to my fellow Latinos here, the amount of crosses and icons in Rachel’s home would have me believing I walked into mi abuelos casa).

Things I liked:

-Rachel’s introduction and how she is the center to everything that will be happening this season.

-My bb Dick Grayson’s introduction, and I am not gonna like, I fangirled when I saw the suitcase.  Everyone knows that means Robin time!

-Ms. Koriand’r intro was great!  I love how she doesn't speak a word of English until a full three scenes later.  The introduction of her powers are fantastic and I just love her overall.

-The fight scenes seem good so far, I hope they keep this type of energy up for later episodes.

-The story that is unfolding is interesting.  There is a clear line of plot that Rachel is the key for something and it is moving the plot well.

-Also, I love that Gar broke into an electron store to steal a video game, straight homage to the character himself.

Things I did not like:

-Dick’s new partner, she’s awkward and idk if she is even going to be relevant anymore.

-The way they introduced Gar seemed so much like after thought-”Oh, shit.  we forgot about Gar.”  No, do not do my bb Gar that way, he is more than an after thought.

-The scene transitions could be better-but again, it is a pilot so they try to pack everything in at once.

-Does no one know who Dick is?  Bruce Wayne’s son?  How do your cop comrade not know that?  Seems weird to me and inaccurate to Bruce Wayne’s typical popular persona, especially since he came from Gotham.  MF GOTHAM!!

-Also, what is Dick angry about?  Bro is out here slicing people up for fun.  Yikes.

Overall, I really enjoyed the first episode.  Since I am a long term Titans fan from the comics to the animated shows etc.  I get where this show is heading and that Rachel is obviously the key to bringing Trigon into the mortal world.

Off track question, do you have favorite runs for Superman and Damian individually? And also, if a book reader who has never read comics wanted to read some, would you be able to recommend at least one very good run from each of the big 3?

Hmm, good question but I’m gonna have to open this up for others to weigh in on because I just haven’t read enough Superman in years to really have any springing to mind there. Clark’s one of those characters that I love but I just don’t like most writers take on him whatsoever so I’m like.....hmm, I’m gonna skip it, lol.

For Damian I’d recommend avoiding his Teen Titans runs because YIKES do I hate how they characterize him there.....whereas Supersons stuff with Jon Kent and Damian, while skewing younger, is pretty fun, and its great to see Damian with an actual friend, y’know? 

Morrison’s original Batman and Robin run with Dick as Batman and Damian as his Robin is.....idk, I hesitate to recommend it because on the one hand its pretty formative and essential to Dick and Damian’s relationship and did some sizable development and foundation-laying there.....but on the other hand I hate almost everything else about it, Morrison’s take on Jason is trash, and I just don’t really care for their take on a lot of the larger Batfam dynamics. I think Morrison is one of those writers who goes into a run with a very clear vision in their head of what story they want to tell, and have no problem reconfiguring characters into whatever they need to be in order to make their story work, rather than trying to build a story around pre-existing characterizations and that’s just not really to my taste, personally. So its one of those runs that is iconic and kinda necessary to be at least familiar with to really understand a lot of what’s done later with various characters, and there are certainly parts of it overall that I like, but I don’t really like the run itself as a whole, lol. So make of that what you will. I’m not even sure if that actually counts as recommending it or not fhaslkhfkalhfla.

For good runs about the Big Three.....for Wonder Woman, I’d recommend Greg Rucka’s run. He’s the writer of the comic The Old Guard movie on Netflix was based on, if you’re familiar with that, and I really liked his take on Diana, and how he incorporated Greek mythology into her adventures. Its pre-Flashpoint, so it goes with the version of Diana brought to life by the gods for Hippolyta rather than her being a daughter of Zeus like in the New 52, just FYI.

For Batman, again pre-Flashpoint but I’d go with Bruce Wayne: Murderer? and Bruce Wayne: Fugitive. I recommend them because while not necessarily the best Batman runs out there, I think they cover a good....spectrum? Like, in the course of them they show a lot of different sides to Bruce and the Batfam in general (at least for that era....Dick, Tim, Steph, Cass and Babs in specific). I think all of those characters get a pretty good showing at various points of the story, it contains some of my favorite Dick and Cass interactions and team-ups, shows the early stages of Cass and Steph’s friendship, and does a pretty good job at getting at what makes Bruce tick, both the highs and the lows of his character without ever going TOO low with Bruce’s character and dipping him into outright abusive behavior like other runs have. Like, I was frustrated with Bruce a LOT in those stories, but you’re supposed to be and the narrative does that for a REASON and doesn’t leave it unresolved, which is my big gripe with most runs’ treatment of Bruce and issues that arise between him and his family.

Another good one for Bruce in particular is The Long Halloween....its an older run but really quality and delves into a lot of the Rogues and his views of and interactions with them individually. Just realized that I’m recommending a lot of Loeb here which is weird because overall I am SO not a Jeph Loeb fan but I have to admit his Batman stuff is definitely better than most of his other work. And in for a penny in for a pound so I might as well go ahead and rec Batman: Hush too, which is a bit of a weird one and not really beloved by a lot of fans but I’ve always been pretty partial to it because I like the focus on Bruce’s investigative methods and process and thoughts as he goes about trying to get to the root of a mystery that’s deliberately pushing at all his buttons....again, without giving into the urge to take Bruce to too dark a place and completely alienate him from his family. Also I think Hush is an underrated Batman villain and could be a major player if used more and with the right touch.

And again, as for Superman, I don’t really have any runs that stick out for me as faves......most of my love for Clark’s character comes from his appearances in other books and characters’ lives, as for various reasons most writers’ focus just on his character in his own book tends to lose me. Like, I either find their depiction too superficial and think they lean too much into the caricature of Clark Kent the good wholesome Midwest farmboy without any real depth to him, or else they lean too far in the direction of trying to make him edgy or throw curveballs into their depiction of him just to surprise readers and shake up the perception of him. The ideal Clark Kent for me lies somewhere in between those two extremes.

That said, for lack of any other ideas I’d go with the Death of Superman arc from the early 90s. Because it was big, it had weight and impact at the time, and I think its underrated and has been largely moved past in most readers’ minds and DC’s as well, which is a shame because if nothing else, it was a story with momentum and consequences and really brought into focus what Superman means to the DC universe and other characters in a way that few other stories have IMO.

OKAY I KNOW theyre slightly different (rebirth has shorter sleeves and a more padded look) but to me its like. same thing. okay i think its.. fine. its not phenomenal but its not ugly.. i like the brown jacket more than the black jacket i have to admit, its more distinctive and i simply like the color more, however i do not.. like jason having the bat symbol.. but thats also a me thing about how badly written this is. anyways. the helmet with the mouth disgusts me and everytime its drawn like that its humilliating. like. 7/10. maybe 7+. when it has the mouth or like nose ANY FACIAL EXPRESSION RLLY its a 5.

okay these two are like. pretty much the canon versions of robin and red hood HOWEVER they both have details that are different from the original version and DESERVE a mention. the curls on robin jason and jasons red gloves/belt are ICONIC. whoever designed them knew what they were about, so 10/10 best bapy jason.

does the person who designed this know how much theyve done for the lgbt community? i hope they do. i love.. a lot about this costume. i love the ears, i love how techno it is, i love the layers to it.. im.. not a big fan of the whole military thingy but i have to admit that applying it to the design itself is kind of neat.. i love the colors too and how.. practical it is while being. well. kinda dramatic? the whole bat aesthetic.. yeah. i love it. 9/10

this one.. when u think about it the outlaw version is VEEERY similar to this one: the pants, the hood, the jacket eve. however i like this helmet so much more, i have a weakness for eyeless (??) helmets.. i like the little details of it as well, i remember that pic going around of it being held together with like. fuckign stitches and bandaids. legendary. i love this look, i would say 9+/10

okay gonna go ahead and say it: not a big fan of the helmet. it looks like.. a bug? the lenses do not spark joy. this bitch has many styles and like toners etc and i will no rate them all. i think its a pretty basic design, not the best but not the worst either. like if it was an exam i would make them pass but make faces at what im reading like eeehhhgh. 7/10.

middle one is like literally, on the outside and superficial level, just. his usual costume. the jacket and the grey kevlar and the bat. now the gloves are sexy as hell.. and in the whit ebackground one u can appreciate the under costume better and i really like it?? i just.. like the design. I HATE HOWEVER the bat helmet. WHY IS IT HOLLOW?? BITCH HELLO?? So since pretty much everyone agrees that Tim needs a name change, and I think most people dislike the first two RR costumes (I dislike the pretty much Robin one too, because it seems like he hasn’t accept losing Robin, when I feel a lot of his comics right after Bruce W died was about that?) which leads me to: What do you think Tim’s costume would look like if he got a good outfit, and what name?

o yeah i was not a fan of the cowl. and the n52 design is just… so busy and excessively accessorised (excessorised???) - i drew it a couple times for this project im workin on and the whole process was me squinting at reference panels and whispering softly but passionately “what the fuck” - and i agree on the rebirth RR design, it looks more derivative of dick and jasons retconned robin costumes than inspired by tims og 80s design (however. the unternet costume - its simple and appealing and clearly nightwing-inspired and i am a fan, also the giant scythe/halberd/mace thing was so ridiculous i loved it)

which is why i thank pat gleason for my life bc tims new outfit is such a good modernisation of his original robin design. so i mean to answer ur question i think tim has a p good design right now (although not for long i guess since they announced hed get a new look/codename soon) BUT if i were in charge of debuting a new design and name… hm……….

whatever his new name is, it’d preferably have something to do with wherever his personal storyline is headed, which i dont know, and for all my complaining abt how red robin is a shit name i dont actually have great alternatives lol. i did see somewhere the suggestion for the name “Cardinal” which i dont hate, so ill use that as a placeholder for now (although “Halcyon” is an interesting option)

tangentially, my personal preference for his robin graduation would be a miniseries featuring tim and damian both as robin, begrudgingly having to work together to fight some greater enemy and becoming true brothers along the way. ending with tim giving damian his blessing to be robin (a post-mantle blessing but still) with the first amicable passing on of the robin title literally ever

as for Look: his new design should a) accurately reflect his character b) mesh well with whatever tone his personal storyline is going for c) be a natural progression of gleasons newest iteration while still d) able to stand as its own iconic look

i always thought tim would do really well in a more grounded noir-style detective story, both using and especially subverting the tropes of the genre (for instance tim befriends every femme fatale and romances absolutely zero of them. theyre pals and have weekly movie nights or smthn) obvs using some of the mystery elements to springboard into classic comic wild times etc etc. theres also a great opportunity to include some more cyberpunk aesthetics to the look and feel ofthe story

i.e. tim is part of the waynetech r&d teams, working with them to develop new technologies, and proceeding to test out some of the prototypes while doing vigilante work (bc terry had to get his rocket boots from somewhere ok). gotham is still gotham, but its starting to see some of that neo-futuristic/blade runner flavour from batman beyond.

so. cyberpunk detective story starring cha boy tim drake. im not gonna draw it rn but lemme just gather some ref elements here in case i ever do

first off - motorcycle, obviously. redbird is back babey and this time its a two-wheeler. all his gear would be modded the hell out of, but the motorcycle itself would be an approximate balance of 70% ducati and 30% tron lightcycle situation. a speedy bike with ample room for the edgy overkill batfam aesthetic, with maybe a little akira in there who knows

same goes for helmet; 70/30 on this modern/cyberpunk situation. heres a quickly photoshopped “cardinal” helmet lol 

although theres totally room for some daft-punk leds in there. serving as a heads up display AND a fun neon aesthetic. I really want to play into that John Wick neo-noir situation.

besides that… ive got a preference for street style over the superhero spandex, so… detective jacket. every detective has a good jacket. norm breyfogle made a comment on his early tim robin designs that itd be pretty either/or on jacket vs cape, merging the two looked a little silly. for robin they probably decided on cape to keep things classic, but for cardinal i can do what i want

and i want to bring back some of this popped collar.

which i basically did for that other tim design i drew, which i still like, so this one would probably be at least a lil borrowed from that.

greig rapson had a sweet robin design that had a sort of flight-suit (which dove into the actual mechanics??? i love) and since id want to dive into tim testing out waynetech prototypes, its a pretty good natural progression from him to terrys glider thing

the whole ensemble would be fairly understated however - enough to semi blend in with any crowd, hero or civilian. after all the story focus would be just as much about solving the mystery as it is punching the bad guy

the various interchangeable gadgets would be both prototypes of terrys eventual batsuit, and also all the failed prototypes that never managed to get off the ground. just to add an element of tension/plot devices wherein tims gear could break or malfunction pretty much anytime.

im fixated on this rocket boot situation though so itd be a paired down version of terrys eventual seamless/invisible design. still noticable and clunky, but working with the sleek modernish style outlined by gleason

smthn almost similar to the prowler actually from spiderverse - as in: Clearly Rocketboots, and clearly diy’d the shit out of, but still working with that Aesthetic

im debating on the addition of more overtly birdlike/cyberpunk elements, so ill add this here cause its dope as fuck (from ahmet atil akar). 

and a lot of batclan capes tend to end with that concave spiked look, which works great for bats but not really for birds. a tailcoat might emulate the bird tail, but it also might evoke Penguin a lil too much idk.

also in the interest of keeping everything within the same sort of design language, i would Love to see some new villains emulating deconstructionist/architectural kawakubo fashion:

so uhhh yeah. budding cyberpunk detective story with a little noir and a little technological advancement progressing in fits and starts. taking from the gleason foundation with heavy black featuring brighter coloured accents and modern sleekness, made a little dorky via prototype technology, with some extra neon blade runner shit thrown in there.

Full Endgame spoilers/review:

(TL;DR: It was really fucking good. Theres some bad obviously but overall worth it. Even after reading the spoilers and feeling like I may not like it as much as I thought I would... I actually liked it more.)

- - So as I said I loved the movie I had some gripes but overall I thought it was one hell of a fun, entertaining movie. I'll go by each characters story in my review saving Cap and Tony for last.

Natasha- Honestly? Though I think the MCU dropped the ball on the 0G6 being a believable family... I think Nats role in this movie was sweet. I really like the scene where Tony Nat and Bruce were laying down talking about Strange and the stones. It was really cute but it really made me wish we got to see this earlier. Joss dropped the ball hard in AoU. Ive said it one and I'll say it again. AoU should have been the movie where the Avengers were a solid unit throughout the movie.Nats death was... heroic but honestly her and Clint beating the shit out of each other because neither could stand the thought of the other being sacrificed was kinda funny and cute which is jarring to the story. It kinda sucks that she was fridged before the final battle though.

Clint- What are the fucking odds that every one of his family was dusted? But w/e. Clint having a wild sword battle in Japan... it was ridiculous and weird and IDK what they were thinking with that scene but it was played really dramatically but I laughed? Cuz it was so over the top and silly... even though he just slit that guys throat and Nats like :c Clint~ honey no its fine... and they hold hands over the guys warm corpse. LMFAO WHAT!? Im at least happy his kids got him back if nothing else.

Bruce- ... Bruce with Hulks big green body? NICE. Thats gonna have some interesting fanart I can already tell and I lift my glass to you. I once tried to draw a little comic where Bruce and Hulk separated but also had swapped bodies.... so Bruce had Hulks body but I never did finish it I wonder if I still have it saved somewhere. Anyways. Honestly? I found Bruce in this movie to be equal parts funny and annoying? Like it was a bit jarring sometimes that he was so lighthearted despite everything.

Thor- When I read the spoilers I thought I was gonna really dislike Thor but watching it I understood where Thor was coming from and I couldnt really blame him for spiraling and its not like anyone close to him seemed to even check up on him despite clearly knowing where he was. Im really sad that it took all those years and only until he was needed for someone to try and talk Thor through what he was going through. Im not annoyed with Thor. Im annoyed with the rest of them (minus Tony and I guess Clint? Considering.). Bruce was his friend in Ragnarok, Nat keeps talking about them being family, and Steve is their leader where the hell were they? Unless im missing something... I guess Valkyrie too but shes been picking up his slack as a leader and was holding the Asgardians together so I can cut her some slack. ANYWAYS. Thor was kinda funny in the movie but it was kind of hard to enjoy his goofiness. It kind felt like Tony in IM2. Speaking of Im glad Tony seemed really tolerant of Thors drunk behavior... I was sure he would throw a lot of shots like Rocket did. I wish they had a moment to talk about Thor self medicating with booze... Tonys been there. I get why they couldnt really but.. His scene with Frigga was really nice. Frigga is a bad bitch raised by witches and shit.... she knows all~ A wise woman that Frigga.

Scott- HOLY SHIT Did I love Scott in this movie. He was soo funny and cute... and bullied a lot. You know I have a thing for easily bulliable character. And Scott just got spanked left and right. His helpless goofiness reminded me of Harry from KKBB a little. He bounced off everyone well and it makes me kinda wish he was one of the OG6 instead of Clint. He was more of the heart that kept the Avengers together than anyone. Also him and Tony talking about Caps ass? HILARIOUS. Bisexual icons honestly. 'That suit did nothing for your ass.' 'No one asked you to look!' 'I think you look great Cap as far as Im concerned thats Americas ass!' and then later Caps all 'That IS Americas ass.' Unbelievable. But his best scene is still him reuniting with Cassie. She was so big! Im so happy she got her dad back... but Bruces failed time travel machine scene.... that was a close second. 'Somebody peed my pants... idk if it was baby me or old me........ or me me.' Also the 'whats up regular sized man' scene is longer and more hilarious than the preview showed. FUCK YOUR TACO SCOTT. At least Bruce is nice to him. I ship GreenAnt a little. Rocket petting Scott and mockingly calling him a puppy. SAME.

Rhodey- JESUS RHODEY. Speaking of hilarious idiots. Im glad he got a bigger roll in this movie but he didnt hug Tony when he got back so whats the point? BUT W/E... He was hilarious and amazing. It was nice to see him step up as one of the sorta leaders after the snappening. But he was also A HUGE FUCKING DORK THE ENTIRE WAY THROUGH. Thinking that a secret cavern with a spooky name would be boobytrapped like in Indiana Jones and trying to convince Nebula to be careful. Naming a bunch of shitty time travel movies to prove a point about time travel (with Scotts help) and going back in time to kill baby Thanos...and Bruce was like 'yeah... no...' and him fucking TRASHING the magic of the iconic opening scene of the first GotG where Quill is dancing.... 'so hes an idiot?' RHODEY PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE have mercy. Him and Nebula are a trip. Also I made a note to mention Don Cheadles BEAUTIFUL soft voice. So here it is. I love Don Cheadles beautiful soft voice. He had too few scenes with Tony but their first scene when Tony starts freaking out and hes trying to get Tony to calm down was pretty good... and god that ending.... ;-; How come Rhodey got NO lines while Tony was dying? But also in the same position I dont think Id have any words either. I too would just cry. And did... for Tony. But yeah besides his lack of scenes with Tony I really loved Rhodeys scenes. I usually do. Hes adorable.

Nebula: Sweetie... You are just amazing. Shes legit one of the best most solid characters in the movie. The opening scenes between her and Tony? FUCKING adorable. Im sad we dont see more of them after the time skip. I also wish we got a longer scene of Neb and Rocket talking when she gets to earth... I guess just seeing them sit together sadly was enough to portray the emotions but.... I MEAN. More Nebula wouldnt hurt anyone. Having to see two tortured versions of Nebula was upsetting. Future Nebula who lost so much and past Nebula still under Thanos' thumb. 'You can change!' 'He wont let me' OOF. Im sad that past Nebula was killed... but appreciate that even in that moment past Gamora was upset to see her be killed. Im glad with Present Neb, Gamora was so easily heel-face turned. She loves her sister. Also their moment after past Gamora beats up present Quill was hilarious 'Really? This is the guy?' 'The choices were him or a tree.' WHAT ABOUT DRAX, NEBULA?! I know I said I may not watch any MCU movies after this but I might tune in for GotG3 for Nebula (and Thor).

Steve: I actually ENJOYED Steve in this movie for the most part. For the first time in any movie... even by himself I kind of enjoyed Steve. Especially the scene when hes fighting himself and his past self says 'I can do this all day' and hes like 'Tst... yeah I know... okay' Like he was sick of his own damn bullshit. And frankly? Same. Also him whispering 'Hail hydra' to get the scepter? Hilarious. I cant help but see it as a knock at that shitty Hydra Cap comic that everyone hated. But despite me enjoying Steve for most of the film... the MCUs inability to write a good romance and pretending like Steve and Peggys relationship was a peak or something completely undoes it all. It would still NOT BE GREAT regardless but the fact the RUSSOS are the ones who brought Sharon into TWS in the first place makes it SO MUCH WORSE that Steve dipped out. Steve should have moved on... even if it wasnt with Sharon. They could have at least MENTIONED HER but they knew they couldnt because then it would be too highlighted that Steve is a fucking FUCK BOY who used the niece of the woman he loved as a surrogate and that him going back to the past means hes gonna be meeting little Sharon at some point. Also? Really? Steve you have this whole new family you supposedly love and can live your life with but you rather go back in the past because the first woman who was nice to you was there? Move on. Its so fucking weird that hes so obsessed with her. You have your childhood friend and the rest of your new friends... and supposedly a girlfriend. IDK how anyone could be happy with that ending for him. But I guess its in character... remember the note he sent Tony 'I've been on my own since I was 18.' What about Bucky? He was there with you and you had family in the Avengers supposedly. Natasha seemed to think so. YOURE SUCH A FUCKIN SCUMBAG STEVE. Jesus.

Tony: First of all Id just LOVED his scenes with Nebula as I said. He sat there patiently teaching how to play paper football and held her win. It was REALLY cute. When he passed out she picked him up off the floor and sat him down on the chair and pat him. REAL CUTE. He nicknamed her 'The Blue Meanie' its cute and he tried to give her the last of their food but she insisted he eat it. Bobbos eyes never looked more gorgeous than in that scene where Carol finds them honestly. Tonys I told you so was really really sad. It had a lot of feeling like that scene in AoU when he laughs hysterically and starts ranting? Rhodey tried to calm him down but he just ripped into Cap. Also he yanked off his arc reactor and I FULLY JUMPED IN PANIC because I forgot it wasnt in him. I fully flinched. But he pulled his heart out and gave it to Steve and then passed out. Tony and Peppers daughter is ADORABLE. And her interactions with Tony are so sweet. Domestic Tony is lovely. I love that when Steve and the gang roll up on him Morgan runs out during their discussion and is like 'Mom told me to come and save you....' and hes like 'Well Ive been saved!' REAL CUTE. Also he swore and his daughter copied him and hes like NOOOOO!!!!!!! LMAO. LANGUAGE Tony. Tony is motivated to fix things seeing that pic of him and Peter. Hes such a softie. IM REALLY REALLY SAD that we finally see Pepper kinda GET Tonys need to be Iron Man and is like 'But could you rest?'. The one time she encourages him to go back to be Iron Man and he fucking DIES. Im so sad for Pepper. But that scene between them where shes like 'We'll be ok.... you can rest now.' FUCK. Im crying again. That scene between him and Steve- 'Someone shoula warned you~' 'You did...' 'Oh did I? Thank god Im here' has the same energy as 'Who taught you how to dance?' 'You did.' 'Well Ive done a marvelous job!' It was pretty great. Tonys nicknames for Scott are 'Pissant' and 'Thumbelina.' Im not OVERLY fond of his scenes with Howard. But honestly? My brother is the same way with our dad... he just chooses to forget the bad stuff and focus on the few good times. I cant do that but if it made Tony happier then VERY WELL. I wish Tony coulda talked to Jarvis too tho... just a word... anything? Best Tony scene is Peter babbling about how he musta passed out because Tony was gone and and and and Tony just hugs him so tightly and Peters hugs back and is like :D 'this is nice'! Though that STARK contrast of them after Tony uses the gauntlet... and Peter is like 'Mr Stark... we won... we did it... no Mr Stark...' Big Simba and Mufasa feels (and kind of Hughes and Elicia tbh). Not cool Disney. I was already crying. Rhodey was the first to reach Tony and Tony couldnt say ANYTHING to anyone and Rhodey just pets his cheek... Tony was just looking around as his family just has to watch helplessly as hes dying and Pepper tells him its ok. His funeral was really nice. He recorded a message for everyone kind of like his message for Pepper on the ship. Everyone was there... I think even Harley (Im really sad we didnt see them get reunited even once). The scene with Happy and Morgan was really sweet. 'I'll buy all the cheeseburgers you want....' It was cool to because... ya know.... Jon Favreau. He got a really beautiful end. I wish he could just retire and live with Pep and Morgan... but if he had to die... that was a really lovely sendoff. SO ALL IN ALL. Awesome movie. I didnt get to see past elderly Steve passing the shield off to Sam... I'll have to rewatch it again when theres a better version. Especially for that fucking STUNNING end battle. Even with the shitty cam I watched it looked AMAZING and I cant wait for it in HD.

why did u choose ur url: the song Watermelon Ascot by mewithoutYou has a line that i love: coriander manna in the mortar of a joke. when i was trying to come up with a new online handle, i found the concept of coriander manna very compelling, evocative, and poetic. i inserted lavender, which is my favorite color, scent, flower, and aesthetic to make it feel personal to me, as well as to hit the right gender coding (because “lavender” and “manna” both have interesting gendered connotations and i like the way that they fit together). lavender was also a name i was considering for myself irl, and while i ended up deciding on something different, i consider it to be just as much a “real name” as the one i use offline. i think that theres nothing wrong with having two equal and alternative first names. both are chosen names that are personally meaningful to me, and both feel right when people use them.

Something that’s important to keep in mind when reading older comics non-linearly because you’re jumping around between the iconic greatest hits stories rather than trying to read older things entirely in the order they were published (which I fully understand is all but impossible, especially with how often titles crossover with other titles a person may not be all that interested in otherwise) -

Its just....that’s not the way they were intended to be read, and this means reading them this way occasionally loses some nuance.

I think this is highly important in the matter of the Last Laugh story, and with Dick’s reactions to Jason’s return in general, as well as other things like the Blockbuster storyline.

See, even when people do reference the Last Laugh story, the common takeaway is treating it as though Dick killed the Joker because he thought the Joker had killed Tim like he had Jason. That it was more about Tim.

And like yes, it absolutely was about Tim. But it was equally about Jason, and you can’t divorce that from the story. You just can’t.

Because read linearly, in order, with that story existing between stories before and after it rather than on its own, in a vacuum....

It was abundantly clear from stories AROUND Last Laugh that Jason was very much someone on Dick’s mind - not just in the ‘oh he feels guilty for him dying, and he should’ way that fandom tends to insist on (grrr), but just in the ‘he was my brother and I miss him’ way. Like Dick hallucinating Jason-as-Robin when he was near death himself, not to be haunted by his specter, but as a comforting presence. And like AFTER Last Laugh, when Dick was struggling with coming to terms with having crossed that one line he’d vowed to Bruce never to break.....he wasn’t doing it while hanging out with Tim and hovering obsessively over him and reassuring him of his presence and safety. He was doing it while secluded alone in his apartment, unshaven, drunk and staring at pictures of him and Jason.

That context is critical. Last Laugh was very much about Dick and Jason, every bit as much as it was about Dick and Tim.

And it was also about Dick and Bruce, and the fact that after Bruce resuscitated the Joker - telling himself he did it FOR Dick, because Dick wouldn’t be able to live with himself otherwise - Bruce did absolutely nothing to...help Dick live with himself and what he’d done. In fact, Bruce holds Tim back from going after Dick and says “he has to face what he’s done.” That was always more about Bruce being able to live with what Dick had done. And Dick was not unaware of this.

You have to factor in the placement of this in other stories as well. Like the fact that all of this took place in comic book time a mere few months after Bruce had FINALLY adopted Dick, at age 23, in Gotham Knights #17. At a time when Bruce being proud of Dick and Dick needing to feel like he wasn’t giving Bruce any reason to regret his decision - these were very much additionally contexts that matter.

As well as the fact that again, in comic book time, it was less than a year later that everything with Blockbuster unfolded, and culminated in his death. The death that Dick feels so guilty for, even though he really had nothing to do with it and shouldn’t have. 

None of this is coincidental. All of this was linear. This was the context of all of these stories.

Dick loved his brother Jason. Dick mourned his brother, missed his brother, mere months after finally getting the adoption he’d craved for so long broke Bruce’s most sacred rule....because he missed and mourned and loved his brother, and his brother’s murderer threw all that in his face and Dick snapped. 

And then....Dick is left to cope with this on his own by Bruce, because of Bruce’s own issues with what happened, and then to top all of this off, when Dick is at absolute rock bottom, he’s made to feel guilty for another death - and this absolutely 100% is affected by the fact that he feels HE JUST LET BRUCE DOWN BY KILLING THE JOKER. And is still very much affected by the aftermath of Bruce’s....not being there to help him through it. Which could have made all the difference in everything that went down with Blockbuster, let alone the aftermath.

But Dick was left to go through both of these things on his own, and it was only six months after Blockbuster’s death, Tarantula, the destruction of Dick’s entire CITY thanks to Chemo....that Bruce finally confronts Dick about all this, rather than comforts him, and expresses his disappointment that Dick lost sight of the value of his own life in all of this, somehow. Which - was supposed to be a buck up, kiddo kinda thing I guess? Idk. 

And THEN factor in Jason’s return - with Dick not getting a chance to encounter Jason himself until Jason seeks him out in New York - mid murder spree - months after Tim was hospitalized by him.

Consider THAT context. Dick’s brother - the one he loved, missed, mourned - the brother he KILLED for, because of this (and that’s not on Jason, not at all, I’m just saying, you can’t divorce his CONNECTION to this event that is SO pivotal and central to all of this for Dick) - Dick actually GETS THIS BROTHER BACK....in the form of this guy who he’s not sure what to feel about, because he announced his return by almost killing the brother Dick has come to know and love since Jason’s own death. And Jason is full of resentment about what he perceives as Bruce’s betrayal - by not killing the Joker, and judging him for killing people - as well as proof he wasn’t loved and missed and mourned.

All of which is categorically untrue, given the full context of Last Laugh and its aftermath for Dick.....not just in the sense that Dick killed the Joker, in large part because of his grief for his brother....but also in the sense that contrary to what Jason often expresses as a belief - that Bruce would forgive Dick if it were Dick doing what Jason was doing - Bruce couldn’t even be AROUND Dick after Dick killed ONE person, TEMPORARILY....the same person that Jason SO BADLY WANTED SOMEONE TO KILL BECAUSE OF THEIR GRIEF FOR THEM.

How the FUCK is Dick supposed to feel about all of this? 

And this is the context that has absolutely been ERASED by pretty much all of fandom, in regards to all of this. In favor of this cardboard cut out depiction of Dick as like this....frustrated and barely sympathetic older brother who just wants Jason to behave, so they can all be the perfect family.
